Playwriting Workshops Online for Students, Families and Teachers

The Playwrights' Lab - Introduction to Playwriting

The Playwrights' Lab - Introduction to Playwriting is a virtual playwriting workshop for adults interested in learning and practicing the art of playwriting. In collaboration with The Welders, a playwrights' collective and theatre company in Washington, DC, this weekly workshop will be an introduction to playwriting, story structure, character and plot development and best practices in the craft. 

Each class takes place once a week on Wednesdays from June 10 to July 15, 2020. Register by Tuesday, June 9, 2020. For more information, please contact Jared Shamberger at jshamberger@yptdc.org.

YPT’s Online Playwriting Program for Young People

Virtual Playwriting Classes Weekly

Bring live virtual instruction to your students with a YPT Teaching Artist. Online courses take place twice weekly for each school level for six weeks. The current term takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from May 5 to May 28, 2020. Students complete assignments weekly and receive direct feedback from a YPT Teaching Artist. Classes are $40 and tuition support is available for students in need.

Workshops are designed for young people ages 8 to 18 years old. Digital Content for Young People, Schools and Families

Downloadable Lessons for Elementary, Middle and High School Level

Students learn how to draft an original short play over the course of 12 lessons including playwriting vocabulary, character building, dialogue and more. Students will also receive remote feedback and guidance from a YPT Teaching Artist as they complete each lesson. Each workshop is optimized for independent student learning on a flexible schedule.
